La bande-annonce du pilote montre Mark Dacascos conduisant des voitures rapides et tirant sur des zombies

Lionsgate sometimes puts out some okay looking stuff. Other times they seem to squeeze on the bottle of cheap-sauce and slather it all over a knockoff burger filled with groans and derivative plots. It almost looks like Le pilote fits the bill, a post-apocalyptic horror flick that stars B-movie martial arts action star Mark Dacascos, fresh off his stint in John Wick 3 and the forgettable Netflix series, Assassins Wu.

The trailer for the direct-to-DVD film centers around Dacascos’ character, who is an ex-hitman turned zombie survivalist. He lives in a small settlement with a wife and daughter, but one day it’s sabotaged and overrun with the walking dead, forcing him and his daughter to flee in a spiffy BMW with a Bleu de france livrée.

I’m not really sure what the plot is beyond that, but we see that the father-daughter duo get waylaid by some undead walkers and must fight their way through them. I’m guessing the plot from then on is just to… survive?

C'est ce qu'on appelle Le pilote but there doesn’t seem to be much of a point to the driving, other than to flee the ruined settlement.

I could be wrong but if feels like someone wrote out a partial script for a zombie-survival plot and then forgot to include the rest halfway through completion.

Le Chauffeur (2019)

Hopefully the actual film is a little more engaging than what we see in the trailer, but part of me tends to think that this is probably the sort of film best enjoyed on a lazy weekend while scrumming through your cable channels and resting on Syfy for a few laughs after guzzling down a couple of beers.

In any case, I kind of wish that Mark Dacascos and Scott Adkins received better material. To his credit, at least Adkins did appear in a couple of noteworthy flicks, like Avengement et par Undisputed série.

So far Dacascos’ only good movies seem to be Kickboxer 5 and the criminally underrated but similarly named DRIVE from back in 1997. Now that movie had some iconic fight scenes. For those of you who don’t remember, check it out below.
